The Association of Maintenance Contractors of Canada (AMCC) held its annual members and industry stakeholders meeting June 4 at NAIT. Board Chair Ken Sandmoen shared insights on the organization's progress and strategic vision.

Established just over a year ago, AMCC has been dedicated to unifying Canada’s unionized industrial maintenance sector, creating a consistent voice for the industry, and enhancing operational and financial efficiencies.

Key Initiatives and Milestones

Over the past year, AMCC has achieved significant milestones:

• Formed the Construction and Maintenance Industry Alliance (CMIA) with key stakeholders including Construction Labour Relations Alberta, the Building Trades of Alberta, AMCC, and the GPMC/NMC. This alliance aims to promote industry stability.
• Created a new bargaining process to include all member companies. This is a crucial step to creating strategic and predictable working agreements.
• Engaged with key Alberta cabinet ministers to share the Association’s vision and start conversations on how the provincial government can work with AMCC.
• Met with federal officials in the office of the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development, and Official Languages, Honourable Randy Boissonnault, to address recruitment and training challenges and discuss potential solutions like immigration policies and workforce diversification initiatives.
• Launched educational workshops on labour relations and maintenance agreements
• Expanded the Association through stakeholder meetings across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and New Brunswick
• Supported mental health initiatives and championed workplace safety.

Engagement and Collaboration with Members Throughout the day, AMCC reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to collaboration and communication. “We have seen tremendous benefits from our collaborative approach, which involves regular dialogues with our members through forums and consultations. These interactions have been invaluable in aligning our goals with the practical needs and expectations of those we serve,” Sandmoen said.
