Board Spotlight – Mark Ramsden
A structural engineer and certified commercial diver, Mark Ramsden literally started his career under water, helping to maintain and repair docks around North America, the Caribbean and South Africa.
That unique skill set propelled Mark into a career that has taken him across Canada and the globe in project engineering and maintenance roles.
“I’ve had eight careers rolled into one, but that variety of experiences has given me a broad perspective and insights to draw upon from different industries,” Mark says. Now CAM Industrial Solutions’ Vice President, Field Services Union North America and Power O&M, he has found working in the maintenance area to be the most satisfying part of his career. “I love being in the field, talking to the craft and having my boots on.”
Mark sees a real opportunity for AMCC to address the challenges currently facing industry. CAM works under the GPMC in a number of provinces, allowing Mark insights on what’s happening in industry throughout Canada and much of North America. “Because we have broad access, we can find how different places are tackling challenges and bring those ideas to the table,” he says, adding that one of the biggest challenges is attracting more young people into the skilled trades. Mark, who served in the Canadian Armed Forces for seven years, sees veterans as a potential group to help address workforce shortages. He is a passionate supporter of promoting diversity within the workforce.
Raised in Halifax, Mark now lives in Edmonton with his wife and two children.
