Building Canada’s Workforce Advantage

This week, AMCC President Shandra Linder joined Board Members Mandy Kaiser and Amir Shami at the 2025 National Construction Labour Relations Alliance (NCLRA) Conference in Calgary where industry leaders from across the country gathered to discuss the future of Canada’s construction workforce.

Across two days of engaging sessions, it was clear that attendees and presenters believe Canada’s economic future depends on how effectively we manage and mobilize our skilled workforce. With major infrastructure and energy projects on the horizon, industry and government must work together to ensure Canadian workers remain front and centre in building the projects that power our economy.

Key speakers included Sean Strickland, Executive Director of Canada’s Building Trades Unions; Adam Legge, President of the Business Council of Alberta; and Corey Hogan, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources. These leaders reinforced the importance of collaboration across labour, industry, and government to close workforce gaps and strengthen competitiveness in the decade ahead.

AMCC extends special thanks to NCLRA Chair Tony Fanelli for his work in keeping the conversation moving forward and to CLRA President Joe McFadyen for hosting the insightful event in Calgary.

As outlined in AMCC’s recent policy paper, One Industry. One Workforce. One Future., building a more coordinated and resilient approach to workforce development is essential. Events like the NCLRA Conference are vital in advancing that shared vision. A vision where Canada’s skilled trades continue to be our greatest competitive advantage.
